The Canucks have a small mountain to climb and the Seattle Kraken are hoping to steal the rope.
The last time the two teams met back on March 1st in Seattle, the Kraken came from behind twice and ran away with a 6-3 win. Despite already playing almost 22-minutes in the match, Vancouver captain Quinn Hughes left midway through the 3rd period after “tweaking something”.
In other words, it wasn’t a good night.
Seattle has accumulated five of a possible six points head-to-head against Vancouver this season and finds itself with a 6-6-and-2 overall mark in its history against its close Canadian neighbour.
Just when you least expected it, that punk kid from across the border has stirred up trouble, and Wednesday night at Rogers Arena, he’s gonna try and do it again.
The Canucks playoff hopes are dim, made worse when the St. Louis Blues came from behind on Tuesday night to beat the Detroit Red Wings in overtime, 2-1.
The victory put the Blues in the first wild card spot eight points ahead of the Canucks, with the Minnesota Wild occupying the second spot seven points ahead. Vancouver has at least a single game-in-hand on both of them.
Meanwhile, the Canucks have played the same number of games, 74, as the Calgary Flames, a team now one point ahead of the BC boys.
Seattle officially occupies a spoiler role, having been eliminated from the playoffs last weekend.
Realistically, Vancouver must win at least six of its last eight games to have any chance at a playoff spot. Lose against the Kraken on Wednesday, and one might as well forget the whole thing.
