Huggy Returns, Petey Scores, Canucks Win 4-3

It took a shoot-out, but the Canucks beat the Flames 4-3 to knot up the wild card race in the Western Conference.

Conor Garland ripped home the deciding goal past Calgary goalie Dustin Wolf in what turned into a four-round skills competition. Vancouver goalie Kevin Lankinen stopped three of four shooters and made twenty saves through regulation and overtime to pick up the win.

Rejuvenated Canucks forward Elias Pettersson scored a goal for the third time in his last four games, tying the game 3-3 at the 13:16 mark of the 3rd period.

Pius Suter scored in the 1st period and Jake DeBrusk in the 2nd period for the road team.

The match marked the return of Vancouver captain Quinn Hughes to the line-up following a second injury absence this season. He’s missed a total of 14 games this season and last played on March 1st in Seattle against the Kraken.

The Canucks lost the other Elias Pettersson, we call him ‘Petey-D’, to injury in the first period following a retaliatory hit by Flames forward Connor Zary. It followed Petey-D’s hit on Calgary’s Nazem Kadri.

Vancouver veteran D-man Tyler Myers sat out the game, reasoning undisclosed.

Vancouver and Calgary are tied with 71 points in the Pacific Division standings. The Flames have played one less game.
