The Canucks Season: What If We Just Play It Out

Canucks Season

In baseball, it’s often said of the long summer; it’s a marathon, not a sprint.

That’s sort of true with the hockey season, although a team can bury itself with a slow start out of the blocks.

What’s more apropos is the coaches’ saying, “don’t get too high, don’t get too low”. It’s a game and a season of emotions. Every team goes through high points and skids, it’s how they handle it, especially if it becomes controversial at times.

What if this is just one of those years where a team survives a bunch of crap and keeps on moving. What doesn’t kill the Canucks makes them stronger. Anybody buying it?

The St. Louis Blues were the worst team in the NHL near New Years 2019 and they went on to win the Stanley Cup that year.

The LA Kings were a recent number-eight seed (2012) to win a Stanley Cup. They peaked.

Survive and get to the big dance, that’s the goal. Anything can happen in the postseason, particularly if a team is playing its best hockey. That seems like a strong possibility for the Canucks.

They’ve won three games in a row, Thatcher Demko just played a strong game in net, and if they can put the bullshit behind them and battle on with two strong goalie options, this club could pull it all together in time to make a run.

Even if it requires a blueline bolstering move or two at or near the NHL trade deadline.

That’s an optimist’s stance. Why not?

Again, overreacting or panicking never got anyone anywhere. The Vancouver market has a tendency to do so, with plenty of help from the media.

Screw that. What if??

Note: — Congratulations to Linus Karlsson for scoring his first NHL goal in Vancouver’s 3-1 victory over the Predators in Nashville on Wednesday night. The 25-year-old Swede was playing in his 10th NHL game.
