Canucks Demko Leaves Game In Seattle

Canucks goalie Thatcher Demko played in his 7th game of the NHL season when he started against the Seattle Kraken on Thursday night at Climate Pledge Arena.

Demko left the match at 7:49 of the 2nd period and was replaced by Kevin Lankinen. The last save ‘Demmer’ made was on an Oliver Bjorkstrand breakaway, one that was abbreviated when Bjorkstrand stumbled and almost lost the puck. The Kraken forward re-gathered the puck on the inside part of the right circle and Demko turned to meet him.

Demko departed during the stoppage of play that followed Conor Garland’s breakaway goal that gave the Canucks a 2-1 lead.

Through six games this season after returning from a knee injury, Demko had a 2-1-and-3 record, a 3.43 goals against average, and an equally uncharacteristic save percentage of .879.

Postgame, Vancouver head coach Rick Tocchet referred to the setback simply as “back spasms”. More details could be revealed prior to Friday night’s home game against the Nashville Predators at Rogers Arena.
