Moments after Canucks head coach Rick Tocchet mentioned that winger Brock Boeser’s injury status was “indefinite” on Saturday morning, he followed up that line and another question with “hopefully Brock’s going to be OK.”
He said a mouthful. Reporters have grown to love Tocchet for his honestly, either straight up, or when that honesty spills out accidentally.
“Hopefully gonna be OK” would indicate Boeser’s neck, head, and/or brain are presently in bad shape. “Indefinite” backs up the concept.
The 27-year-old, right-shot sniper is coming off a 40-goal season and prior to the injury he had produced 11 points over 11 games this season, his eighth full campaign, potentially, with the Canucks.
Tanner Jeannot, the Los Angeles Kings forward who delivered the head shot to Boeser with his shoulder in the 1st period of Thursday’s 4-2 Vancouver win in LA., was handed a three-game suspension by the league.
Also 27-years-old, the Saskatchewan native stands 6-foot-2 and weighs 220-pounds. The undrafted winger is in his first season with the Kings after 227 prior NHL games with the Nashville Predators and Tampa Bay Lightning. He’s posted 350 penalty minutes thus far in his career, a hefty number for this day and age, but leading up to this incident, he’s only been fined once by the league, never suspended.
In their first full game without Boeser, Vancouver lost at home to the Edmonton Oilers 7-3 on Saturday night.
