Canucks Cup
Say what?! Yeah, that’s right. This is the season. Behind excellent goaltending from Thatcher Demko, OR Arturs Silovs, OR Kevin Lankinen, the determination of J.T. Miller and Conor Garland, and the proper guidance from head coach Rick Tocchet and his high end posse of assistants and consultants, Vancouver will be celebrating with the chalice.
As described in the video below, the latest episode of “Krackin’ Canuckleheads”, there’s also a clairvoyant element to this. I’ve just got that feeling, one that came out of left field, and those are the ones that always turn out right.
One big example came in the fall of 2015 while hosting a national radio talk show. I was asked to pick the Calder Trophy winner for that season and I had the first pick. Connor McDavid seemed extremely obvious, but instead, suddenly thinking McDavid might get hurt, Artemi Panarin’s name leapt off the page.
Artemi Panarin??!! I was laughed at. “Good luck with that.”
Ding ding ding!
I hadn’t planned it. Didn’t research it. Just a weird feeling that surged. I had that feeling about the Canucks and the Cup on Saturday while prepping for an interview. Blindsided me.
We shall see.
Enough of the cosmic. How about the practical? The Canucks will get great goaltending, regardless of who that may be from, Elias Pettersson will at least be back to normal in the postseason, and Vancouver will defeat the Edmonton Oilers in the 2nd round on their way to the Final.
Think about it, if Petey was playing just at his usual level, not even extraordinary, the Canucks would have beaten the Oilers this past spring.
He’ll be fine, and the Lower Mainland will be celebrating.
