Vancouver Canucks, Kyle Burroughs

Canucks Daily: Diamond Rings, Petey’s Gig

Two former Vancouver Canucks and a current one got engaged to be married during the bye week as a handful of NHL clubs enjoyed some fun in the sun before and during the All-Star weekend.

Canucks defenceman Kyle Burroughs had his photo pop up on social media after he popped the question. Same happy story for former Canucks defenceman and current Vegas Golden Knight Ben Hutton.

Vancouver 2014 1st-round NHL Draft pick Jared McCann, now a Seattle Kraken forward, also flashed the diamonds.

Tis the season apparently, but reality kicks back in quickly with the Canucks playing on Monday night in New Jersey against the Devils.

It’s a four-game road trip in total for Vancouver with stops to follow in New York City against the Rangers on Wednesday, the next night on Long Island to play the Islanders, and then Saturday night against the Detroit Red Wings.

Know Bo

As if it’s not weird enough already for former Canucks captain Bo Horvat, adjusting to playing for a different NHL team for the first time in his career, he also gets to take on his former mates during the first week.

It’s a busy one. His New York Islanders pop out of the All-Star break with a back-to-back in Philly and then at home against Seattle before taking on the Canucks on Thursday.

Horvat has expressed his priority of simply trying to help get his new team to the playoffs. The Isles are presently two points behind the second Eastern Conference wild card spot, with adversaries holding games in hand.

Skills Assignments

On Thursday the NHL announced the player assignments for the 2023 All-Star Skills competitions. Canucks center Elias Pettersson will be participating in the Hardest Shot competition against the likes of Rasmus Dahlin of the Buffalo Sabres, Seth Jones of the Chicago Blackhawks, and Josh Morrissey of the Winnipeg Jets.

Oh yeah! And this guy named Alexander Ovechkin of the Washington Capitals.
