Canucks Comebacks
A late power play opportunity converted and an overtime goal from Elias Pettersson; that’s been the winning formula for the Vancouver Canucks the last two games.
Wednesday night it came in a fast paced 6-5 win in San Jose against the Sharks.
“I think we play now until the last whistle,” Pettersson said postgame, “but then on the other side, we have a one goal lead coming into the third period and they score two quick on us, so we’ve gotta be better in that area because we’ve been giving up too many leads this season.”
Lately the Canucks have been the comeback kids. The 7-6 victory against the Montreal Canadiens featured a 4-0 1st period lead for the Habs.
In San Jose, Nick Bonino scored 18-seconds into the game. Dakota Joshua answered with two 1st-period goals for the Canucks.
“Just a confidence builder,” Joshua said postgame. “It goes a long way in showing that I can be effective at this level, just take a performance like that and try to build off it.”
The Vancouver Canucks are at .500 on the season with a record of 12-12-and-3.

Forward Tage Thompson of the Buffalo Sabres did it again. For the second time this season he posted a six-point night.
This time, in the Sabres 9-4 road victory over the Columbus Blue Jackets, he also tied a unique NHL record, with four goals in the first period. Only four men have pulled that off. Thompson ended up with five goals and an assist for the game.
Back on Halloween, the 6-foot-6, 220-pound Phoenix native had three goals and three assists at home against the Detroit Red Wings. He’s fourth in NHL scoring with 40 points and third in goals with 21.
Thompson has 14 points during his current five-game point streak.
Team Canada Looks Wright
One day after playing in his 8th National Hockey League game and scoring his first NHL goal, 18-year-old Shane Wright was loaned by the Seattle Kraken to Team Canada to participate in the World Junior Championship (WJC) in Nova Scotia.
Wright has headed east to join his countrymen in Moncton for the preliminary action for the WJC that begins December 26th. Team Canada begins play in Group A in Halifax against the Czech Republic. Other teams in the group include Austria, Sweden, and Germany.
Wright captained Canada to gold at the 2021 Under-18’s, where he was second in tournament scoring with nine goals and 14 points in five games.
