Canucks Under Pressure
At this point for the Vancouver Canucks, the opponent, or level of the opponent, means nothing. Inevitably the Canucks will need to win many more hockey games than they lose and they’ll need to start winning them now.
It just so happens that Wednesday night’s game is at the Ball Arena in Denver where the Stanley Cup champion Colorado Avalanche just happened to go 32-5-and-4 last season. This season they’ve started 4-2-and-1 on home ice. The losses both came by the score of 3-2, one to the upstart Seattle Kraken on October 21st and last week in their most recent home game to the St. Louis Blues.
The Avalanche may be a little sensitive. We know the Canucks are, in a different way.
“It’s been frustrating, since the game in Edmonton (season opener) this year pretty much,” Canucks forward J.T. Miller said after practice Tuesday, “not gonna lie, guys are sick of losing, especially giving up leads. It’s hard to get a lead in the NHL, most nights were doing a lot of good, proving we can play against any team in the league for a certain portion, we’ve just gotta find a way to grind it out for sixty.”
8 pm in Denver means a typical 7 pm start time on your tellies in Vancouver. While we wait ….

At Sportsnet, Elliotte Friedman makes reference to the Canucks in his abridged “32 Thoughts” column. It’s not so much news as speculation and therefore not worthy of a deep dive, but it’s always interesting and entertaining to take in the other tidbits nevertheless. He brings up the potential Jacob Chychrun deal in Arizona.
The TSN Insiders chat about the latest Toronto Maple Leafs injury, a biggee, to defenceman Morgan Rielly, who’s been placed on injured reserve. The Leafs are already missing Jake Muzzin and T.J. Brodie along the blueline. Meanwhile, they also bring up the fact that the Arizona Coyotes don’t seem to want to budge on an asking price for Chychrun.
